Office of Human Subjects Research
Project
This Web-based course teaches medical professionals around the world about the ethical and legal issues involved in using humans as research subjects. Originally developed by d’Vinci Interactive to be distributed via floppy disk (1994), this cross-platform program was later updated to an Authorware Shockwave-based piece (1997). It has now been completely redesigned and is HTML-based.
This site includes tracking student progress and completion and is designed for cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility.
Approach
The first iteration of this course was one of the first CBT projects done by Vince Hellane, the founder of d’Vinci Interactive. Vince was provided with a thick binder-bound script from which to program. The current version is a variation on that original file.
Results
Thousands of students have successfully taken this course since 1994. In a testament to its importance, it has evolved over the years as has the means of delivering Technology Based Training.
d’Vinci’s Role
d’Vinci Interactive designed the interface and graphics. We did the original programming in Authorware and the new version in HTML. It also utilizes Flash, Javascript, DHTML and PHP.
Time Frame
From beginning to end, d’Vinci’s role in this project took approximately two months.
