Project

Introduction to the Principles and Practices of Clinical Research is a video-based distance education course offered through the NIH. It involves more than 30 live video presentations. In addition to interface design, d’Vinci Interactive programmed the registration/login, tracking system indicating completion, testing and scoring for each module and created a browser-based administrative back-end. Up to 60 CME credit hours can be earned through this course.

Approach

This is a straightforward student registration project consisting of rostering, testing and scoring.

Result

Our administrative back-end allowed the NIH Clinical Center to efficiently administer the program to students on-site and at remote locations. In addition, it allowed senior management quick access to demographic information and student performance to assess the quality of the course.

d’Vinci’s Role

The d’Vinci team worked closely with a Clinical Center representative to define the project parameters, the information that needed to be collected and the reporting requirements. We provided total administrative access, editing and reporting capabilities--all browser-based. Four separate administrative tasks that needed to be programmed include:

  1. Initial course registration which included searching, sorting and editing capabilities for all students
  2. Tracking of students’ attendance for each session and compilation of the continuing education credits
  3. Scoring and reporting test scores to both the students and the administrators
  4. Report capabilities, with search and sorting options on all aspects of the course.

Hosting, support and maintenance of the non-video based aspects of the course is all provided by d’Vinci Interactive.
