Project

Traditionally, a glossary is associated with a larger body of content, like an educational textbook, in which subject-specific terms need to be quickly referenced for their definition. So how can a glossary stand on it’s own and accomplish more than a partial dictionary? When the National Institutes of Health commissions a fully interactive talking Glossary of Genetic Terms for both CD-ROM and Web-based delivery - that’s when.

Approach

While targeted to the population as a whole, our design is intended to be particularly appealing to high school and college students researching genetic terms. Programmed in Flash, this piece is smooth and seamless, allowing information on all genome terms to be accessed easily and swiftly. In addition to definitions, the Glossary of Genetic Terms features detailed illustrations, narrated discussions of terms by leading researchers in the field and thorough cross-referencing of related terms.

Results

The English version of the Glossary was so well received that d’Vinci Interactive was also contracted to create a Spanish version.

d’Vinci’s Role

The d’Vinci team worked closely with representatives of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) to design an appropriate interface and interactive structure. All content was provided by the NHGRI, including the audio recordings.

Programming was done in Macromedia Flash.
